Valentine's Day in Avebury in our Quirky Camper

After a minor setback in London, ie our battery died after we left our external “porch” light on overnight (oops), we were finally on our way to Stonehenge!… that is until we opened our Lonely Planet Guide and read about Avebury, a charming little village situated in the middle of an ancient stone circle. Being that it was along the way and had many positive reviews, we decided to give it a go.

Known as being the largest stone circle in the world (1,141 feet in diameter to be exact!), it even has a pub in the middle of it (haunted history here)! Wonder what our ancestors would have to say about that.. but regardless, it was absolutely stunning:

With no entry fee, no crowds, no ropes or staff, we were free to explore, and even touch, these incredible giants at our leisure (which is not something you are able to do at Stonehenge). On top of the freedom, it felt like we had the entire place, and the beautiful day it was set in, all to ourselves. Hello romance!:

Insider Tip: Be sure to take the time to walk inside St. James’ Church, it has a special feel about it and is absolutely BEAUTIFUL:

After walking around the incredibly cute and quaint Avebury, we were gifted with the first sunset of our trip and possibly one of the most beautiful and serene ones we have yet to see, ever:

Even Hector, our Quirky Camper, got to enjoy it 🙂

That night, Valentine’s night, we decided to stay in, build a fire and enjoy a traditional, homemade English/Indian dish (we had no idea they ate so much Indian food in England!): Madras chickpeas, brown basmati rice and garlic naan (topped with avocado… that’s the Californian in us). We took our time, enjoyed each other’s company and ended with feeding each other our fave chocolate. Here’s a fun time lapse we made of our evening, we hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

PS – Sorry for the delay in our post! We usually post on Tuesday mornings but being that we’re on the road in a new country, surrounded by so many new things, not always having connectivity (though thanks to tep wireless we have wifi more than we ever could have imagined!), plus our schedule is dictated entirely by the weather and our appointments to go look at van homes to buy (yay!)… it’s a bit difficult to stick to such a strict regimen but we promise to post each week one way or another 🙂
